In what ratio does the point $(2, p)$ divide the line segment joining the points $(–4, 2)$ and $(5, –1)$ ? Also, find the value of '$p$'.
Show SolutionHide Solution
Let the ratio be $k: 1$
$2 = \frac{5k-4}{k+1}$
$\Rightarrow k = 2$
$\therefore$ required ratio is $2 : 1$
Now, $p = \frac{2(-1)+1(2)}{2+1} = 0$
