Find the ratio in which the line segment joining the points $(5, 3)$ and $(-1, 6)$ is divided by Y-axis.
Show SolutionHide Solution
Let the line segment divides y-axis at $(0, y)$.
Let the required ratio be $k:1$
$\therefore 0 = \frac{(-1)k+5(1)}{k+1}$
$\Rightarrow k = 5$
Hence ratio is $5 : 1$
